I have never seen the map for WoW, but if you search in the General Discussion for Map Project, you should be able to find a pic of the map.

To be able to instant travel to a place you have to first get there by foot, so yes it is possible to walk everywhere.

There are enemies in I belive everysingle area that is not an outpost, town, mission start point.

There are no forms of transportation beyond walking and using the map to warp to a particula outpost or town.

Here's the link for the GW world map. If you click on the individual maps, you can zoom in and scroll through. You pretty much start your adventure way on the east in Ascalon and work your way West.

Once you've 'opened' up an area by adventuring to it, then you can use your map [M] to 'teleport' to any of the areas you've opened up. And yes, you walk everywhere.

As of this release, there aren't any way to travel by ship, but maybe we will in the next chapter.

Guilds Wars doesn't feel like a world much. It's just alot of instances. Tyrias the only place that even remotely resembles a persistant world.

That is sort of like saying a Novel is not much like a Story, it is just a bunch of Chapters.

There is no requirement for a player to use the teleport feature. You can walk to all parts of the map if you want to take the time. There certainly are people who will chose to do that. For them the world will feel large.

We have yet to see what effect the new "Quest System" will have on the feeling of persistence. There may be NPCs that "travel" and can be met in different places via this "Quest System". I expect meeting other people will still be limited to towns and outposts.

-= on a side note =-
If you go to a National Park and get off the marked paths, how often do you meet other people?

Uh, that's not what I meant. You zone, that takes away from the game. That, and the fact that you don't see the world being interactive much also crushes it's realism. And the fact that it is different from MMORPGs letting you see everyone. It's a carbon copy of the world all to yourself, and has advantages, or else Diablo 2 wouldn't be alive still. The point is that a MMORPG easily can be more real, specially on a RP server.

You've got it backwards. I find the Guild Wars world to be at least as believable as a typical MMORPG world, if not more. For one thing, the world is far more interractive than it can ever be in a game like WoW or EQ, because it doesn't have to remain static so that the next person in line behind you can come along and do the quest you've already done. Here, things that you do in the world stay done permanently. Everything can change around you, and the world reacts to your accomplishments. You're someone who matters in the story. Sure, it's just an illusion since it only happens in your own instance, but at least ArenaNet is going to the trouble of creating that illusion. Most of the games that have come before don't even bother. That girl whose lover I just rescued? He'll be back in his dungeon in ten minutes, with the necromancer who kidnapped him alive and well. If I trail along behind another group of players, I can watch them play out the drama all over again.

It's like a magician sawing someone in half while keeping a side of the box open so that you can see exactly how he's doing the trick. At least ArenaNet closes the box so that we can pretend we're seeing real magic.

Wait, this arguement can be covered in Magic and whatever topic.

NiteX: Good for you, and where did you travel around?

Lunarhound: The point isn't that it is an illusion. The point is that the illusion is not up to par.

well you have to remember the game isnt done... we dont know how interactive the final product will be, there will be many more npcs towns quests etc...

also remember arguements like these are never going to come to a consensus, expecially when the game isnt even out yet.

Ok I would say that Tyria would be like the size of one of the two islands in WoW (I don't know the exact name of the islands). But telleporting between cities and outposts saves you a lot of running.

With GW, the focus has been shifted from standard role-playing and realism to action and adventure. To me, having to run all over the place is akin to grinding, which GW tries hard to stay away from. Would you rather duke it out for 10 minutes before dinner, or would you rather spend 4059867 hours running from place to place accomplishing nothing, only because you would have to if it were real... GW is highly focused on the action and less on the grind. People want to play.

EDIT: The map now isn't going to stay the size it is for very long. After release, and with subsequent expansions, explorable areas will soon be very vast. You can't judge the game, especially on something like this, when the game is still in Beta.

This is to a link here of someone making an an interactive map in flash, it's just from betas and it's not even release info in it (I have heard some 40-60% more map on release, that'll be nice!), anyway check it out.

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=2316

I know from traveling this map it's huge and the missions not easy, about the last 1/3rd of the ones before Lyon's arch are still a challenge to many level 15+ players. Cya in the beta! Oh maybe put your in-gam name in the Unofficial GWG Member "Phone Book," link in my signature. It's a way for some of us GuildWarsGuru members to connect in-game, thanks.

Cool

> Is the map big on guild wars compeared to, say, wow?

No. It is smaller than most MMORPG's, but larger than typical single player games. However, it is much more densely packed with fun than the MMORPG's.

> and can u travel without being teleported?

Yes, most of the world is connected through explorable areas.

> if u can will there be enimes u can fight well u travel?

Yes, there will be plenty of enemies. In fact, there is no "dead" areas, except where you have killed all the monsters (actually, there have been dead areas in the betas near the border of the maps, where devs haven't filled them yet). Exploring (wandering between towns and outposts by foot) is almost as intensive as doing missions.

> will there be transport like boats?

Boats in Guild Wars are just teleport. You ask the captain to take you somewhere, and there you are. It is the only way to travel to islands.
